New Release: A Closed Door, by Andrew Q. Gordon

So it’s been a hot minute since my last ‘release’ day. And while this is just a short story, it’s my first contemporary story that’s been published.  I need to do a few more of these as I liked very much doing something without the fantasy/paranormal world building.

I hope folks like it and if you do, please drop me a note here, on Goodreads or on Amazaon. Continue reading Release Day! A Closed Door

A Closed Door – Cover Reveal and Release Date Info

I’ve not published a straight up contemporary MM Romance yet – other than a free read or two on Gay Authors – so this is something of a milestone for me.  This was something Lily Velden challenged me to write and I think it came out quite well, even if it is just a short story.  I suspect I’ll want to try my hand at longer ones in the near future – especially if I get covers this nice again.

Will Parkinson from Pride-Promotions made this badge which talks about the book and shows the cover: (I’ll post the cover soon – promise)

New Release: Dakota Skies, by Taylin Clavelli

New Release: Dakota Skies, by Taylin Clavelli

For those living under a rock and who don’t know by now, I am part owner of Wayward Ink Publishing.  Today Wayward released our first Novel—Dakota Skies, by Taylin Clavelli. Taylin has become a real part of the Wayward family. People toss that term about freely, but she really has been a true and dear friend.  The fact we can be the ones who make her dream of seeing Dakota Skies, in print a reality is one of those nice moments about being a publisher. Taylin worked hard on her story and is rightly proud of the result. Please take a moment to read a bit more about the book and click one of buy links and pick up a copy of Dakota Skies today to help support Taylin with her first book. A Closed Door – Part of the Love, Loss, Laughter & Lust Anthology

Those who follow my writing know that I don’t write a lot of contemporary MM romance stories. Most of my stuff is either paranormal or fantasy.  I also haven’t written anything for inclusion in an anthology.  So when I co-founded Wayward Ink Publishing with Lily Velden, it was suggested – nicely I’ll point out – that perhaps as a part owner of the company I might want to help the company along by writing something for inclusion in the anthology.  So I bucked two trends and agreed to write a story for the Love, Loss, Laughter & Lust anthology that came out on July 20, 2014. A Closed Door is my contribution to the anthology. LLLL Bookmark   As I said, A Closed Door was a bit different for me. There is no magic, no wizards, no swords, no mental powers.  Just two people trying to coup with loss and their past.  Two warnings. There is no sex – while I know I don’t typically write sex scenes, this story just didn’t call for it.  Read it to see why.  The other warning is I’ve been told I made two readers cry.  So be warned. Orin Merritt is the main character. He returns to the remains of his childhood home after a tornado destroy it and took his parents lives.  He’s obviously devastated and while trying to cope with their loss, he has to confront his ex-best friend who is trying to make amends. In addition, he made a promise to his parents that he expected he’d have years to plan out, but with their death, he has to honor in the middle of his loss and confusion. I’m pleased with how the story came out – which probably doesn’t count for much because I wrote it, but I think it holds its own among some very good stories in the anthology.

Blurb:

LLLL Banner - mini We’ve all loved. We’ve all laughed. Sadly, we’ve also probably all known loss in one form or another. And, yes, we at Wayward Ink are sure we’ve all experienced lust! In Love, Loss, Laughter & Lust, you’ll experience one or more of the “L”s as we take you on a roller coaster of emotions. Whether you like to sigh over the sweet, cry for the broken-hearted, enjoy a good laugh, or get a little hot and bothered, there’s something for everyone in this collection.

Since yesterday we at Wayward Ink published our first book, today I asked one of the authors to stop by and talk about her story in the anthology.  H. Part of Bollocks! A Wayward Ink Publishing Anthology

It’s great to be here today to tell you about my new short story In the Blue Moonlight, which is part of the BOLLOCKS! anthology. I must admit, I’m thrilled to be part of such a superbly titled collection. ‘Bollocks’ is one of my favourite words – slightly naughty, but not too shocking, it’s the ideal word for so many occasions – and is also very British. Update Part 2 – New – and Not So New – Works in Progress

These Works In Progress (WIP – not to be confused with Wayward Ink Publishing’s WIP) updates are always a bugger for me. I have such good intentions, but never seem to have the time to finish anything.

BUT – this time I have some news without hopes or best intentions. This time, I actually have completed stories to announce. (Shocking, yes I know.)

Update: Part 1 – Wayward Ink Publishing

Some of you know, some of you don’t, but Lily Velden recently started Wayward Ink Publishing (WIP).

She asked me to be her partner in this venture, and while I said yes, I’m more of a very junior partner with a big mouth.  Lily is the driving force behind this new publisher, I’m just a helper.

WIP’s first book – Bollocks – is going to be released on June 5, 2014.  It is, however, available for pre-order now on WIP’s website:  Buy Link

Let’s Talk About Sex – A Roundtable Discussion (With Giveaway) – Part II

I was asked by my friend and fellow author, Larry Benjamin, to participate in a discussion about sex in MM Fiction. The other authors taking part are WS Long and Hans Hirschi. Debbie McGowan, author, editor and publisher of Beaten Track Publishing agree to act as a moderator. Today is Part II  Below is a snippet from the conversation, but be sure to click on the link to Deb’s site and enter the giveaway at the bottom of the post. We’re giving away 5 ebooks and a $30.00 Amazon gift card.

DM: Welcome back gentlemen. Let’s just dive in and pick up where we left off, shall we?

What’s your approach to writing sex?

WSL: The sex scenes should propel the story, involve the characters at that moment. That’s the only reason to include it. If the sex doesn’t add to the plot then don’t add it.  Continue reading Let’s Talk About Sex – A Roundtable Discussion (With Giveaway) – Part II
