A Closed Door – Part of the Love, Loss, Laughter & Lust Anthology

Those who follow my writing know that I don’t write a lot of contemporary MM romance stories. Most of my stuff is either paranormal or fantasy.  I also haven’t written anything for inclusion in an anthology.  So when I co-founded Wayward Ink Publishing with Lily Velden, it was suggested – nicely I’ll point out – that perhaps as a part owner of the company I might want to help the company along by writing something for inclusion in the anthology.  So I bucked two trends and agreed to write a story for the Love, Loss, Laughter & Lust anthology that came out on July 20, 2014. A Closed Door is my contribution to the anthology. LLLL Bookmark   As I said, A Closed Door was a bit different for me. There is no magic, no wizards, no swords, no mental powers.  Just two people trying to coup with loss and their past.  Two warnings. There is no sex – while I know I don’t typically write sex scenes, this story just didn’t call for it.  Read it to see why.  The other warning is I’ve been told I made two readers cry.  So be warned. Orin Merritt is the main character. He returns to the remains of his childhood home after a tornado destroy it and took his parents lives.  He’s obviously devastated and while trying to cope with their loss, he has to confront his ex-best friend who is trying to make amends. In addition, he made a promise to his parents that he expected he’d have years to plan out, but with their death, he has to honor in the middle of his loss and confusion. I’m pleased with how the story came out – which probably doesn’t count for much because I wrote it, but I think it holds its own among some very good stories in the anthology.

Blurb:

LLLL Banner - mini We’ve all loved. We’ve all laughed. Sadly, we’ve also probably all known loss in one form or another. And, yes, we at Wayward Ink are sure we’ve all experienced lust! In Love, Loss, Laughter & Lust, you’ll experience one or more of the “L”s as we take you on a roller coaster of emotions. Whether you like to sigh over the sweet, cry for the broken-hearted, enjoy a good laugh, or get a little hot and bothered, there’s something for everyone in this collection.

About the Author:

Andrew Q. Gordon wrote his first story back when yellow legal pads, ball point pens were common and a Smith Corona correctable typewriter was considered high tech. Adapting with technology, he now takes his MacBook somewhere quiet when he wants to write. He currently lives in the Washington, D.C. area with his partner of eighteen years, their young daughter and dog.  In addition to dodging some very self-important D.C. ‘insiders’, Andrew uses his commute to catch up on his reading. When not working or writing, he enjoys soccer, high fantasy, baseball and seeing how much coffee he can drink in a day and not get the shakes. PITCH: By Will Parkinson – Book Blog Tour

pitch-blog-tour-600x157

Today I have the privilege of being allowed to host part of Will Parkinson’s PITCH blog tour.  Will has brought a few things to share in addition to his giveaway.  First there is a prequel of sorts. Will shares a short story that introduces us to one of the main characters, Jackson Kern.  The story takes place before the event in PITCH.

Next you’ll get to read an interview with Jackson. This gives us a bit more insight into the person who captives Taylor Andrew’s every waking  – and some sleeping – moment.

Then there is an excerpt from the book. This is a nice introduction to the book itself.

Oh yes, there is a giveaway.  Read on to the end and you’ll find a link. It’s easy to enter, so don’t forget to do that after you’ve read all that WIll has sent along.

Finally, I wrote a review for the book.  you can find it on my site under reviews or you can click the link:

Purpose Pre-release Give Away(s)

I don’t think I can honestly say I’ve been quiet about the release of Purpose. I mean, I’ve been on three blogs, had them reposted on Facebook and tweeted them. I even remembered folks  a couple times when one was ending and a new one began.  To be honest, with all the ‘views’ I’ve gotten, I expected more people would sign up for something free. And it’s not just an eBook. I’m trying to give away a $15.00 gift certificate to Dreamspinner Press. That way if you already bought the book or if you don’t want the book, you can just take the money and buy whatever you like in Dreamspinner’s store. And you can enter multiple times. Each blog stop – and two are still open a third is coming soon – is giving a way an eBook, plus each time you comment on a blog hope your email is entered to win the gift card. You can get up to four chances to win that way. Here are links to those contests that are still open if you want to go sign up:

Anne Barwell – ends June 15

M.A. Church – ends June 16

Elizabeth Noble – Starts June 20 ends June 24.

But maybe I didn’t make it easy enough?  Each blog stop does require you answer a question.  So I’ll make this easier – well hopefully it’s easier.

I’m going to give away another eBook copy on my site on June 21, 2013 – the day Purpose is released.  To enter, starting today and running thought midnight on the 20th,  just 1) comment on this post- no email required, or send out a tweet with a link back to this page; or leave a comment on the Facebook post for this giveaway.  All who enter will also be entered to win the $15.00 Dreamspinner Press Gift Credit.  I think that makes it a bit easier to enter.

Reviews, Are They Useful?

I apologize for not having a proper ‘Wednesday Brief’ to post, but life – better known as ‘lil q, Easter and a bit of a cold – got in the way and sapped my creativity.  I’ll do my best to resume next week and there after.  But since this is a group I belong to, I wanted to be able to promote those good souls who managed to keep with it.  Those flashers are listed as usual, at the end of this post.

In addition to the Wednesday Briefs, I belong to a few author groups. One of the themes lately has been reviews. Good, bad, or just maybe not really a review at all. Different people have different positions on reviews, but I’ll admit that I read and react to reviews.  I like good ones and I don’t like bad ones.  That said, well written critical reviews do have some benefit. The trick, for me, is to look past the disappointment to find those benefits. Continue reading Reviews, Are They Useful?
